A Place For New Beginnings

Courage to
Change Church

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11

We Believe in Redemption, Restoration, and the Unshakable, Life-Changing Power of God’s Grace

Courage to Change Church is a Christ-centered, non-denominational church dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome addiction, trauma, and life-controlling struggles through the healing power of Jesus Christ. We believe recovery is more than just abstinence—it is about spiritual growth, healing, and lasting transformation. Services, led by Pastor DeWayne Hicks, feature live worship music, Biblical teaching, personal testimonies, and a community that understands your journey. We study from the Recovery Devotional Bible (NIV, Zondervan), which includes daily readings, life connections for emotional support, and notes linking Scripture to the 12 steps of recovery. Whether you’re seeking hope or a fresh start, you’re welcome here.

Worship

We come together to lift our voices and our hearts, celebrating the God who brings restoration and renewal. With powerful live music and passionate praise, worship at Courage to Change Church is a place where the broken find peace, and hope shine through.

Grow

Discipleship is a journey, and at Courage to Change Church, no one walks alone. Through prayer, faith-based 12-step meetings, and a supportive community, we grow stronger in faith and find the courage to step into the new life God has for us.

Our Pastors

Senior Pastor DeWayne Hicks
Sister Pastor Rebecca Hicks

Married in August, 2001, we immediately began Courage to Change Recovery Ministry at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Both of us being active members of 12-Step Recovery, we participated in the organization of the Sebastian County Drug Court Program and as a result of our faith-based meetings are recognized by the local courts to obtain any required signatures for 12-Step meetings.

Together, we have 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren, 2 of which live with us, keeping us young and active.

We enjoy ministering on our tongue-talking Harley Davidson, boating, barbecuing, and sharing the love of Jesus everywhere!

As of January, 2023, we retired from serving Sebastian County Adult Detention Center as head chaplains, enabling us to be full-time pastors at Courage. We are still tightly connected to the Sebastian County Drug Court as well as the DWI Court and Veterans Court.

In January, 2025, Pastor returned to Sebastian County, serving once again as chaplain — some people simply cannot stay out of jail!

Our Mission

Our mission is to offer a safe, spiritual, and supportive environment where people facing addiction and life-controlling issues can encounter the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

You Are Not Alone

At Courage to Change Church, we believe that no one is ever too lost, too broken, or too far gone to be redeemed, restored, or renewed by the grace of God. We are a Christ-centered community committed to walking alongside individuals facing the challenges of addiction, trauma, and life-controlling struggles.

Whether you’re personally battling substance abuse, wrestling with destructive habits, or supporting someone you love through recovery, you are not alone—and you are always welcome here.
